WIP Wednesday

Firstly I’ll let you take a peek on what I’ve been doing when I’m not working on 10-minute blocks:
Charm Square Pinwheel Blocks made with Origins by Basic Grey for Moda
Cute right? I love them. I’ve got another charm pack I need to break into and I’ll either do more of these for a top full of pinwheels or make 4 patch blocks out of them. Then I’ll work on the final placement.  There are a lot of darks in this fabric line so I’ve got to be careful to balance them out.

I am hoping I can get this quilt done and quilted before the next guild meeting.

Other stuff I’ve been working on:
Brazil Soccer Lap Quilts – I’ve got all the blocks made.  Need to square them up, make the name blocks with the appliqué lettering and then piece the tops together.  That will be done this weekend.
Tumbling Blocks - Test placementAviary Tumbling Blocks Charm Quilt – I pulled out the tumblers I cut from the two charm packs and quickly realized I did not have enough for the size I wanted.  I promptly went online and found a place that had them in stock (the last place available since this is an out of print fabric) and ordered 6 more charm packs.  I will probably cut 4 into tumblers and use the other two for some sort of wall-hanging.  Or I might just make a really big tumbling block quilt.

This will teach me to assume fabric is still in print when I purchase it and will always be available should I want more.   Though – I still need binding for this quilt since I’m not going to be doing a border.  I will have to find a place online that sells yardage of a good print for the binding.  *sigh*
This weekend I’m hoping to acquire lots of fabric for 5 more lap quilts that are all basically the same theme.  Once I get those done I’ll have one more left before I can start pin basting and doing my favorite part – quilting!  They will all be straight-line quilted on my machine but I still love doing that.

  1. Love those pinwheels! They look great in Origins. The tumbler quilt is very cute too. Thanks for linking up to WIP Wednesday. : )

  2. Pinwheels are one of my favorite blocks! They remind me of summer :). They look especially fantastic with Origins.

What do you attach to your door for your design wall? I am thinking of doing the same thing to the closet door, but I don't know what to put there =/.

  3. Love those pinwheels!

  4. Beautiful pinwheels and cute tumbler.

  5. Great pinwheels! Have you seen Red Pepper Quilts last take on pinwheels? I love them in the yellow and green. What background did you use with them?

  6. I ended up using a charm pack of Bella Solids – Natural. They were out of white but I thought the Natural would look nice.

    I love Red Pepper Quilts!

  7. Beautiful pinwheels!! And I love the origins fabric too.

  8. I love, love, love the pinwheels! As for the question about a design wall, I use a big piece of flannel. It works great! Hugs, Jan
