Bits and Pieces

Some of my String Blocks Bonnie Hunter Method Strings and Things! Last week we happened to be in Target and I remembered needing a few new bins to contain my growing “string” collection so I picked one up.  I was able to consolidate all my strings into one bin and separate out my crumbs into another.  I couldn’t believe how many strings I had!  Some of them are too narrow to sew into blocks so those will be either saved for fabric basket making or thrown out, I’m not sure which yet. I pulled a handful out and plopped it into a basket so I could work on some more string blocks on Betty (Singer 201-2)....

A Little Something for Halloween

Somehow all this Halloween fabric ended up in my stash so I decided to whip up something really quick for my office at work.  This is what I came up with!  The main panel is a remnant I found in a bin at Jo-Anns and the bottom part I appliqued on myself.  The cat and the bat came from Lori with the charms she sent to me during one of our swaps and I had to use those too! Free motion quilting throughout.  I did it in a hurry so it isn’t my best work but I think it turned out cute and cheery.  I love the old fashioned portraits in the fabric I think they are...

Free Pattern Friday – Triangle Love

I’m seeing more and more quilts featuring triangles of all shapes and sizes so I thought I’d highlight some of the ones that have caught my eye recently. Joelle’s Triangle Quilt - Great tutorial on how to do a lovely half-square triangle block using HSQ units of all different sizes to make a 12″ square block.  I think it would look fantastic with different themes of fabrics.  Great scrap quilt potential too! I think playing with these blocks when they are all finished for an interesting layout could be amazing.  Great potential here and the page is full of lovely photo tutorials for how to make the units and such. I heart lovely photo tutorials! Quiltstory...

WIP Wednesday

Pinning primary blocks I haven’t done one of these in FOREVER so it is time to catch up! Currently working on: 3 Primary Color Twin Quilts – 10 minute blocks – finished size is 76″ square. I finished appliqueing the names last night for all three quilts.  Yay! Blocks are ready for one quilt top to be completely pieced together. Finishing the final 30 blocks for the last two quilts so I can piece them all together at the same time. The first two seams are done on those blocks, just need to pin and sew the third and then iron flat and topstitch the middle part down on each block.  Will likely be finished tomorrow. Taping...

The Modern Garden Revealed

I put the finishing touches on The Modern Garden quilt today.  It is my guild challenge quilt that I’m entering into this years contest.  We were provided two ugly fabrics and allowed to use six other fabrics for the top.   Dimensions had to be within 80-100 inches all around.  Mine measured in at 98 inches and will probably shrink a bit once it is washed so I squeaked by.  It is all machine applique, machine quilted and my own design. The theme was “The Birds and the bees and the flowers and the trees”.  I managed to get two of the four worked in there so that’s good.  Overall I’m pretty happy with how it...

In no particular order: My plan for episode 26 didn’t work out so this is my second attempt at it.  You can go see my UFO exploration slideshow if you want to listen to that! I took another Kimberly Einmo quilt class and learned a pattern from her new book Jelly Roll Magic!  I’m finally tackling my challenge quilt – a month before it is due for judging. I pass on my quilting addiction to a friend and teach her which is a learning experience for me I recorded my first video tutorial ever and posted it on English Paper piecing!  Next video will be on corded fabric bowls Swap updates - Join our swap group...

Podcast Delayed Due to Quilt in Progress!!

I’ve got a few deadlines I need to meet and can’t really record while I’m doing applique unfortunately (someone invent a way to podcast and sew at the same time please). My challenge quilt for my guild is due in less than 4 weeks and I’ve got lots of work left to do on it.  So much stitching to be done before I can baste and quilt it.  I do plan on doing a fair amount of quilting in the background and on the borders too. Nothing has been applique stitched yet, I’ve just fused it to the background.  Wednesday I plan to start stitching things down.  I think I’ve hidden the “ugly” challenge fabrics we...
