Embroidery Machine Fun & Orca Bay Update

A few weeks ago we were down in Brandon where my sewing machine shop is and I stopped in to chat with Vicki – the lady that sold me my first Viking Sapphire – and of course I had to do some  shopping.  I looked at a few of the patterns available and decided to try this one out since it involved quilting and piecing in the hoop.  I think my first shot at it didn’t turn out so bad!Pattern: Anita Goodesign – Seeing Double

It is the first project I’ve done using my embroidery machine.  I had several blunders along the way but figured out most of them.  It hangs on the wall in my sewing room since I don’t have a round table to put it on.  I was happy to use up some of my novelty fabrics on it since they are so cute and now I can look at them every day.
Today is the Boxing Day Sew In in case you were not aware and I’m working on all kinds of stuff!  I’ve finished putting the crazy quilting stitches on the crazy quilt that I started almost a year ago and now I’m moving on to doing Orca Bay steps 5 and 6.  I’ve done part of step 5 but it isn’t completed yet.  I did cut out all the 2.5″ squares needed for Step 6 so all I need to do is piece my blocks.

  8. Now that is something I never had thought about – using the embroidery machine to quilt. I shall have to look at this some more. It would make a lovely quilt.

  9. I really, really like what you've made. I've thought about getting an embroidery machine for quite a while but haven't taken the plunge due to cost. Will you talk about pros & cons of an embroidery machine on a future podcast?
