My take on Modern

I’m entering a block into the Quilt Con block challenge! I just got it done moments ago. Couldn’t wait to share it. I love the solids we got to work with. The deadline to send it in is August 15th so I knew if I didn’t get it done today it would never happen.

Playing with strings! I used the square up leftovers to create a section of the block. The Olympics stayed on in the background and kept me company.

The finished piece! It’s a little different than what I originally thought of but I like it.

My design wall isn’t the flattest thing so it looks curvy but I know it’s straight. What do you think? Its my first modern block and I had fun coming up with it. It goes in the mail today!

  1. It looks really nice! I like the dark gray background, it brings out the nice colors in the strips. Well done Katie! 🙂

  2. I do like it. I have morphed into modern quilting of late and am enjoying designing pieces with solids. The dark grey sets off your colors quite nicely.

  3. I love the color palette they chose and your block is fantastic. I love the contrast between the two strips. Great job! Good luck in the contest.

  4. It came out great, those colors are really beautiful!

  5. I think its fab!!!

  6. I like it! You did a great job!

  7. I myself have just started trying modern quilting. There is much less forgiveness in piecing solid colors which I did not appreciate until I tried it.
Your block looks good. I like gray as a neutral

  8. I think you have done a great job with your first modern block! Good job and lucky partner. 🙂

I am a long time listener, but first time commenter. Your modern quilt piece is outstanding. I just love it. I have some leftover solid Kona strips from a jelly roll and I think now I know what to do with them. Thanks for all you do.
