A quilter preps for a cruise

My cruise is coming up fast! I’m thinking of all the things I want to make, prep to take or do before the cruise and my mind can’t stop spinning with ideas! I have to make a list.  (I love making lists!)

  • Embroider a tote bag with subway art that I found and add an applique palmtree. I haven’t found a tote bag that I like yet. I need to do some shopping this weekend at actual stores. Bealls might have some cute totes.

Cruise Subway Art for Embroidery

Optional: Transform a few of my cheap tank-tops into cute sundresses with knit skirt bottoms. Knits don’t wrinkle as bad as cotton and we aren’t allowed to bring irons on board. They have one in the laundry room but I don’t see myself visiting the laundry room ever on vacation.

Projects on board

I’ll only have handsewing projects while sailing. I’m probably going to pack my hexie bag and see if I can make some progress there. I need to cutout some 2.5″ white hexies on my Accuquilt before we leave. I’m itching for a new hand project but I don’t want to give up on this one either. I’m also loading my Nook Color up with books to read while relaxing up on deck.

  1. Is it a sewing cruise? Or a having fun cruise?

    • Having fun! I can’t afford the quilting cruises and hubby won’t go with me if I sign up for one. We’re sailing to Nassau, St. Maartin and St. Thomas.

  2. That’s so exciting!!! I hope you have a wonderful trip!

That sounds like such a wonderful break, Katie. You work hard, are generous and sharing. You deserve it.

  4. Amy Laura says:

Thanks for the link for the dress. That looks like a great project for the new serger! I might even have a tank I can use right in my closet….you’re gonna have so much fun 🙂

  5. I pinned your lens cover link, I’ll have to make one of those, too! Great idea, thanks! Hope you get everything done in time! Have a wonderful trip, I’ll miss you!

  6. Hey Katie,
Just wanted to ask about where you found your subway art that you embroidered on you tote? It is so cool, and I would love to find some like it for other projects. I have to say that I love your podcast, and your blog. Keep up the good work, and enjoy your trip. It sounds marvelous this time of year especially!

    • The girl that does it does everything through a Facebook Group. Here is the link: http://www.facebook.com/groups/289924604416321/

The way it works is you browse through her photo albums in the group, e-mail her (see the group banner for her e-mail address) with your selections. She then sends you a paypal invoice to pay. You pay it and then she e-mails you your files (be sure to specify what filetype you need when you order). They’re usually $3 each but sometimes she has a sale.
