NYC Trip Photos

In early October my husband and I took a fun trip to NYC. It was our second time there and the weather was much better this time around. I wasn’t quilting the first time we went in 2003 so this trip was my first time hitting up fabric and quilting stores. I got lucky and one of my longtime readers and friends was able to join me! Kati and her fiance Attila joined us for a fun Sunday shopping around NYC.   Our first stop was a huge trim store called M&J Trimmings. Floor to ceiling ribbons, buckles, buttons, lace…. you name it they have it if its a type of trim.

I bought some lace and some hot fix crystals and Kati got some wooden buttons for a Christmas ornament project she’s working on. Then we headed up to The City Quilter – the only quilt shop in NYC. They buzz you in the door when you arrive.

The City Quilter has a lot of really current fabric collections around the shop and some other fun samples and projects.

They also have a shelf of special NYC themed fabric.

And my husband thought this quilt was hilarious:

Purl Soho was our next stop. It’s in a very trendy neighbhorhood and focuses mostly on yarn and needlework. There are some fabrics there and other cute little projects. Kati recommended it and I’m glad we went!

During our trip we did quite a few things – a Circle Line night harbor cruise, we attended tapings of both The Colbert Report and The Daily Show, hit up the Top of the Rock for some great morning sunrise photos over the city and had a delicious food tour of Chelsea market. I know both of us were exhausted by the end of the trip (we mostly walked and took the subway everywhere). Really had a fabulous time! Here is a slideshow with all the photos from my trip:

Beautiful photos! I’m glad you had a good time. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

  2. Thanks for the photos Katie. Looked like a fun trip! Did you get to MOOD fabrics? Love that place.

  3. This is how Heaven must look like!! Nice trip!

  4. Your photos came out gorgeous! I looked at the rest of them on Flickr :)) I forgot to ask you in my email, would you please send me the one with the two of us together? It was such a fun day and I told Attila I want to do the Chelsea food tour!!! Hope to see you again soon! 🙂

  5. Hi Katie: I have been looking for new podcasts every day….did you stop doing them permanently? I totally understand people get busy and there are only so many hours in the day. I liked the podcasts since I don’t spend a lot of time reading blogs.

Happy Quilting and hope your corgis are happy and healthy!

    • I’m just taking a break right now. I’ve been dealing with some health issues and my website has also been giving me problems that I haven’t quite been able to figure out yet. I also haven’t been doing a ton of quilting! Hoping I can get back into it eventually but I’m enjoying some time off. It is a huge time sink. I enjoy doing it when I can. Thanks for checking in!

  6. You should organize a tour group of NYC fabric stores. I would be on the top of your list.
