The Katie Update and Quilty Mail

First an update: Physically I’m bouncing back quickly from my hospital/ventilator experience. Back at work full time and I’m able to get around pretty good. Walking up stairs is still somewhat challenging, my quads feel like I’ve done a bunch of lunges and become like jelly anytime I try to climb stairs. It’s a little easier each time though.

Emotionally I still haven’t dealt with what happened. I don’t know when I’m going to do that yet. I can’t decide how I’m going to do it and keep waffling back and forth on the method (Do I journal it out? What about designing? Sketching? Just talking through it with someone? Can I quilt it out?). So I’m a little stuck in my head on that aspect of this recovery. I still have moments when I’m driving and my mind drifts to something I experienced in the hospital and I’ll start sobbing until I can stuff it back down to deal with later.

I haven’t felt inspired to really start a project or continue working on a new one. I have an idea but no motivation to start working on it. Right now I sort of feel adrift looking for land. I know with time it’ll pass.

And some photo updates of what I’ve been up to! A little bit of quilty stuff but mostly getting back to everyday life.

My fabric from the Reddit Fabric Exchange! Love all the fun text prints my partner sent me.

I attended an Aurifil lecture with Alex Veronelli at The Cotton Patch Quilt Shop in Sarasota, Florida. I’m amazed at what it takes to make one spool of thread and the care that goes into it! If you have a chance to attend one of his lectures I recommend going.

Paramore came to Clearwater, Florida and I had to go to their concert “Writing the Future”. The energy from everyone was so fun and she’s such a firecracker dancing and running around stage while she performs!

Sam Rockwell came to Orlando for Florida Film Fest. I love his film Moon and was excited to see it on the big screen. He did a long Q&A after which was so interesting!

    so glad you are feeling better! Try not to dwell on the bad memories, keep moving forward. The motivation will come. It will. Love the headband, really shows off your eyes too.

    Your dogs are so cute, thanks for including them in your post.

  2. Hi Katie, Am so glad to hear that you are feeling so much better and back to work, Yeah!! I just love your “dogs” they are too cute…take care…{{hugs}}

  3. Its really good that you are doing so well, I wouldn’t worry about how to deal with the experience you had from being in the hospital. It will come one day I know when I found out about my son’s disability it took me a while to deal with it. So take your time! Oh and I really like your headband, it is really cute. I’m glad the dogs are enjoying the nice weather, we have been having rain here like crazy.

  4. Hi Katie:

    Always excited to read your updates. Thanks for keeping in touch! Take care and don’t fight the emotions. They’ll likely settle out in time.

  5. Katie,
    Just wanted to write a note and let you know how much I am enjoying your Podcasts. I am able to listen @ work. I’ve been listening to Pat Sloan’s Podcasts for some time and was looking for some other quilt related Podcast as I’ve listened to all of hers and wanted more to listen to when I found your website. I tried a few others but they weren’t holding my interest. I did a google search, saw yours and started listening. The 1st one I listened to was the one you did after your hospital/illness experience. What an experience you had!!! So glad you are doing better. I have no doubt that it was a very traumatic experience and it is no wonder your emotions are all over the place. Everyone processes things like this differently so you will find your own way of dealing. Just don’t dwell on it. Let your emotions out & then move on. Life is still out there for you to live :) So after listening to that episode & a couple that you did before that one, I knew I wanted to hear them all….so I went back and started with your very 1st one. I have now listened up to episode 44, but wanted to take the time to let you know that it has been fun to hear your progression not only with your quilting but with your podcasting. You were good from the start but as you progressed you have become quite polished. I have picked up something new from each episode.
    You are great at sharing information. I’m also looking forward to reading your blog posts. Just wanted to encourage you to keep going. You are great at this. Thank you for that!
