Video Tutorial – Mitered Binding with no rulers!

Since I haven’t seen a video showing how I was taught to do a mitered binding I wanted to share the technique I learned with you.  This method works with any width binding, you don’t need any rulers at all, and you get a perfect flat join every time!

This video starts at the end of my binding where I’ve left about 12″ of the quilt unbound and a long tail on either end to complete the miter.

  1. Great tutorial and much easier than the method I’ve been using. Many thanks!

yes, love it. I always left it straight across at the end. 🙂
What kind of iron is that, and are you happy with it?
Also, lol. are you still going to do a tutorial on “Board basting”?
    Thanks!

  3. Brilliant! Going to try this method, thanks Katie, I have always hated doing that last join in binding, messed it up so many times – not any more!☺️👍

  4. This is THE Best tutorial Ever! Thank you so much for simplifying the mitre on the quilt.

This is so helpful and much better than what I’ve been doing! Thanks for the great video tutorial.

Thanks so much, Katie! This is way better than the ruler I bought, which I can NEVER remember how to use. If I do it your way a few times, I’ll have it down forever 🙂

I finally got around to watching the video, and I’m so glad I didn’t just skip past it. I’m definitely trying this next time I bind a quilt. (Plus, just watching this made me want to sew something, which hopefully means my sew-jo is coming back.)

  10. Wow! Just tried it! Fast!
