A few months ago my boyfriend asked me to take a certain day off of work for a surprise. Then on my birthday he revealed he was taking me to Atlanta for the weekend to see the Margaret Mitchell house where she wrote Gone with the Wind. I’ve never had anyone plan a surprise trip before and take care of all the details including the corgi-sitter. Needless to say I was pretty excited.
On the way up we stopped at every quilt shop I found via a billboard (four in total and a few in Atlanta proper). I’ll talk about what I thought of each shop in a future podcast.
The Margaret Mitchell house is a great museum in the heart of Atlanta. We took the guided tour and had a lovely tour guide to tell us about Margarets life before she wrote the book and what happened after it was published. After that we walked around the grounds a bit and crossed the courtyard to a small area they have where a video plays to show the making of the movie. It also houses a replica of the doors of Tara and the painting of Scarlett in the blue dress. I was fangirling about the painting when John got down on one knee and surprised me with the proposal. It was beautiful and a perfect setting.
We don’t have a date yet but we are brainstorming ideas. I guess I also need to also brainstorm my wedding quilt.
Yesterday I received a fabric order from Fabric.com and opened the 9 lbs of mystery remnants I received on Facebook Live! I always love doing these fabric unboxing videos.
Hoping to record the new podcast episode tonight if everything cooperates.
