Finished – The Yin Yang Quilt: “Finding Balance”

I put the final touches on the quilt soon after getting it back from my wonderful longarmer. It washed up nicely (with the help of four color catchers that came out looking like charcoal when the wash was done) and I washed it one last time before putting it in the mail to my client after my outdoor photoshoot.

I named this quilt Finding Balance.  The quilt name came to me a few months ago as I was assembling the top together.  This year has been an interesting struggle of figuring out my time balance between work, family, quilting, and relationships.

The quilt commission came earlier this year and I’ve been officially working on it since April once I got all of my materials in.  I designed this myself, created the acrylic tracing templates for the small blocks with Ponoko, and a majority of the fabric came from Thousands of Bolts. I didn’t have a large batik stash to begin with so I had to supplement a lot with other earthtone fabrics from there.  I have a lot of scraps leftover to do something fun with.

I took these photos at the park across the river from where I live. I can actually see my house if you stand in the right spot at this park.  Big thanks to John for standing on a picnic table so I could get a full length photo.

I can’t believe it’s finished! Up next: holiday gifts, finishing my super mario UFO for a solids challenge my guild is doing and hopefully sending Orca Bay off to Lazy Daisy quilts to finally get quilted!
