Sunday Stash & Peacock Finish

A finished project for once! Finally took the time to finish up my peacock. This was from a class I took a few months ago on making a stuffed bird. I love the end result and look forward to doing more stuffed creatures! It’s a nice change from quilting and sewing stuff all the time and lets you do some other things creatively that wouldn’t work on a quilt.  This peacock came from the book The Artful Bird, which I highly recommend if you want to try stuffed creatures. My hand embroidery isn’t that great (respect to all you hand embroidery experts out there!) so some of the details didn’t turn out quite how I envisioned...

Liberty Love Giveaway

I reviewed this book on Episode 72 of the podcast and here’s the giveaway for the book! Liberty Love showcases fabrics in a variety of projects including quilts, bags, apparel, home decor and even dog collars! This is a perfect book for beginners that need great tutorials for projects so they can get their feet wet in the world of quilting and sewing.  I found the reference section very comprehensive to help the inexperienced sewer or quilter tackle the projects in the book without worry. One of my favorite quilts in the book has also become an extremely popular Quilt Along with bloggers.  The Marcelle Medallion Quilt Along began very recently and has lots of participants online...

Crayon Quilt Sample & Corgi stuff

I’ve slowly been working on my sample for a class I’ll be teaching next Spring out of this book: Creative Quilts from Your Crayon Box: Melt-n-Blend Meets Fusible Applique. The technique is really fun to play with and there are lots of possibilities for applique. I had to redo a few pieces since the first try didn’t blend well or I got too much color soaked into the fabric but I finally got all of them done last night. Halfway through the project I switched fusible web to something that worked perfectly and didn’t lose it’s stickyness after being heated up repeatedly (this is important when you’re blending on the teflon applique sheet – you need your shapes...

Book Signing with Kimberly Einmo!

So last night I was lucky enough to attend a book signing at Scrap and Sew in Lutz for Kimberly Einmo’s new book - Precut Bonanza. This book is the third and final installment of her precuts trilogy. She did tell us she has signed contracts for two more books so keep an eye out for new stuff from her next year too! This book is a sampler quilters dream. She gives you recipes and instructions for constructing 200 blocks all from precuts. There are gorgeous photographs included in the book showing examples of pretty sampler quilts made from the blocks. She gave the recommendation of copying the blocks so you can see the values in...

The Storm has passed!

Issac came and went without much of a fuss in my area. I did get a day off of work so we stayed home and relaxed, save for a little trip to Waffle House for lunch. On our way out the door I noticed a dog wandering the streets of our neighborhood without an owner in sight so we looked at his collar and thankfully it had a phone number. He was returned to his home in about 20 minutes. They weren’t sure how he escaped. I was glad he got back home. The update via photos: The pear comes from this book that I talked about in Episode 50 of the podcast Creative Quilts from Your...
