Download the free pattern at Craftsy I’ve been itching to post this tutorial since I finished it over the weekend! This was a fun tutorial I did for Therm-o-web demonstrating my favorite glue stick to use for ticker tape applique. My hairstylist is a huge mermaid fan and after seeing her for years I decided it was time to make something special in a mermaid theme. I hope you enjoy it! And some behind-the-scenes progress photos: And a timelapse video {Read More}

I’ve been in a flurry of sewing ADD. I probably have about 5 different projects scattered around my room right now in various states of being finished. I did get a few things finished this past weekend though. This cute hedgehog is an in-the-hoop stuffed toy I decided to try because I was participating in a Plushie swap. I will say I was disappointed with the instructions provided with the file but I managed to get the toy done without {Read More}

Finish: Quilt-as-you-go Dog Bed or Floor Pillow

This has been on my todo list for a while. I finally took the time this weekend to whip one up. I settled on using some of my 2.5″ strips from my stash and did a log cabin block for the pillow top. I quilted it after I did the “quilt as you go” technique to sew all the strips down since I wanted some more dense quilting on the top. This pillow cover went around a 27″ pillow form {Read More}

I promised photos from my sew day with Ann from A Girl in Paradise and here they are! I didn’t take very many because we were busy chatting and sewing most of the afternoon. You can see some of her great projects and the ones I worked on too. I was grabbing grommets in the upholstery section of JoAnns and stumbled upon this little footstool on clearance and snatched it up. I need something better for my feet at work {Read More}

Free Pattern Friday – Pillows and Piping

pillow finished

New reader Sheryl e-mailed me this week with some great video tutorials she uses for piping and a suggestion on how to make my first pillow cover.  Her suggestions prompted me to look for some other pillow tuts and I thought I’d share the piping videos since I thought they were very helpful. Quilting away and some yard sale finds

I’ve got half the quilt quilted so far – all hooped on my embroidery machine.  I do have to sit and babysit this one since the quilt is pretty big and it likes to scoot around sometimes and get out of the clips. I try to find a few good movies on TV and hoop a whole bunch. I think it is making a nice texture on the quilt though!

Border Anxiety and Weekend Finishes

So I finished stitching all my blocks together on the snowball quilt late Saturday evening. It’s always nice when good movies are on the premium channels so you can get lots done without having to find something to be on in the background! Water for Elephants is on HBO now so I watched the last half of that while finishing the quilt center. I was thrilled when I measured the quilt and it came out exactly to what I designed {Read More}

Block placement and a label

Last night I did some multitasking! I stitched out a quilt label for one of my blog followers and while that was going on the Topaz 20 I took my blocks for my commission quilt and started laying them out.  I don’t have a design wall so they end up on my floor in my dining room/sitting area (after I vacuum of course). My layout was planned in Electric Quilt 7 and I sketched in the embroidered blocks to see {Read More}
