Feathers, Feathers and the Butterfly Quilt

This is a UFO that’s over 2 years old and I decided to pull it out and work on the darn thing so I could get a better feel for Anne. I’ve had The Butterfly Quilt hanging in my closet for a while after I worked on the center panel.  (See my photos from 2011 on this project when I first started quilting it).  I got nervous overthinking the quilt after I quilted the center section and was seriously worried {Read More}

When It’s Okay to Let Go of those UFOs – AKA: Fun with Flowcharts

Moving out of my old sewing space prompted me to take an inventory of my UFOs. I realized I had several UFOs that I’d lost interest in or I just wasn’t enjoying the process of making them anymore. One of those projects is from a Kimberly Einmo class I took over a year ago now. I enjoyed the class and learned a fun technique to make lone stars out of jelly roll strips. I had a box with a few {Read More}

WIP Wednesday – Mostly Easy Street!

I’m still getting to know Kismet with lots of piecing and last night was no exception. I unhooked the embroidery unit and got her setup to do some more piecing so we could knock out Part 3 of Easy Street! The method I’m using is the one described here where you use squares and rectangles. The only thing I do differently is I layer my turquoise rectangle on top before cutting my triangles with the Easy Angle ruler so it {Read More}

Major Orca Bay Progress

I started Orca Bay last year and my progress stalled around clue #6 before it was stuck into a tray until I picked it back up a week or so ago. Since the new mystery was starting so soon I wanted to try to make some progress before I started a new project, mostly to save space. This pattern can now be found in Bonnie Hunter’s book String Fling. I got a lot done in a week! Put the blocks {Read More}

Cleaning and Purging + Lightscoop testing

I’m still cleaning out my studio and working on getting it ready for lots of UFO finishes. In the process I’m finding piles of swap blocks, class projects that are half-finished and scraps that don’t have a permanent home yet. I really like how things are shaping up with the pegboard. Not sure what I’m going to do with the rest of my thread quite yet. I’m waiting on another package of 100 hooks to get here so I can {Read More}

WIP Wednesday – July catchup

I’ve got a lot of irons in the fire but I’m getting to the bottom of the hole I think. Huge thank you to Kati for sending me the lovely peach batik to make my fabric flower! I had no peach in my stash at all and nothing matched the show ribbon I needed to make a flower for.  Kati to the rescue with this perfect fabric! I love how it turned out.  I have three ribbons left to make {Read More}

WIP Wednesday!

I haven’t done one of these in FOREVER! It’s good to see the progress I’ve made in the past few months though. I feel like I’m getting somewhere. Recent Finishes: Doggie Commission Quilt In Progress: “Leftovers” – top is finished. Need to pin baste and quilt it. I want to follow the lines of the quilt and do some straight line quilting. I toyed with the idea of filling in the tan areas with feathers but I’m not sure how {Read More}

2nd Quarter Finish-along Goals

I managed to get one thing off my UFO list last quarter but I had some unexpected commissions come in and various other quilt guild things that kind of kept me overwhelmed.  Not to mention Rainbow Insomnia was quite a distraction but a welcome one! So this quarter I want to include a variety of finishes that I know I already have deadlines for and a few UFOs. Jelly Roll Race quilt – has to be finished by Mother’s Day. {Read More}

A Quilter Makes Curtains & A Finish

In the middle of my rearranging I did to my sewing studio I kept looking at the window and thought that I really needed curtains. Then I looked for my window coverings book and couldn’t find it.  The thought kept nagging at me anyway so I decided to see if I could find a simple tutorial online for curtain making.  I found a good one! Design Sponge – Curtain Making 101 – Photo Tutorial I don’t know why making curtains {Read More}
