Guild Challenge Quilts

I have to share photos of the wonderful challenge quilts that were revealed by our guild at the meeting tonight.  We have so many talented quilters in our group and it was so awesome to see the different designs they came up with. First….. I have to share my own bit of news! My quilt “The Modern Garden” received the most votes for the “Traditional” quilt category of the challenge this year.  I was so surprised!

The Modern Garden Revealed

I put the finishing touches on The Modern Garden quilt today.  It is my guild challenge quilt that I’m entering into this years contest.  We were provided two ugly fabrics and allowed to use six other fabrics for the top.   Dimensions had to be within 80-100 inches all around.  Mine measured in at 98 inches and will probably shrink a bit once it is washed so I squeaked by.  It is all machine applique, machine quilted and my own design. The theme was “The Birds and the bees and the flowers and the trees”.  I managed to get two of the four worked in there so that’s good.  Overall I’m pretty happy with how it...

26 – Tech difficulties! I take a class, Book review, Quilt Guild Update, Challenge Quilt Design!

In no particular order: My plan for episode 26 didn’t work out so this is my second attempt at it.  You can go see my UFO exploration slideshow if you want to listen to that! I took another Kimberly Einmo quilt class and learned a pattern from her new book Jelly Roll Magic!  I’m finally tackling my challenge quilt – a month before it is due for judging. I pass on my quilting addiction to a friend and teach her which is a learning experience for me I recorded my first video tutorial ever and posted it on English Paper piecing!  Next video will be on corded fabric bowls Swap updates - Join our swap group...

Podcast Delayed Due to Quilt in Progress!!

I’ve got a few deadlines I need to meet and can’t really record while I’m doing applique unfortunately (someone invent a way to podcast and sew at the same time please). My challenge quilt for my guild is due in less than 4 weeks and I’ve got lots of work left to do on it.  So much stitching to be done before I can baste and quilt it.  I do plan on doing a fair amount of quilting in the background and on the borders too. Nothing has been applique stitched yet, I’ve just fused it to the background.  Wednesday I plan to start stitching things down.  I think I’ve hidden the “ugly” challenge fabrics we...

13 – Guild Meeting, A Disney Trip, New Geeky Game, Magazines

Things I’ve been working on: Cutting fabric and starting blocks for two new lap quilts.  Cutting layer cake blocks is very time consuming…. Put the binding on my Secret Sunbonnet Sue project and labeled it.  Not thrilled with how my label turned out.  I believe I’ll be doing something different next time. Slowly adding flowers to my box of Grandmothers Flower Garden hexagons. It sits on the table beside the couch in the box and I work on them while I watch TV.  I’ve had an idea to create a small sewing jar that will fit inside my purse so I can carry some with me on the go instead of my medium sized tote box....

Guild Meeting

Coxey’s Camp Quilt Blocks Tonight is my March guild meeting.  I finished the second BOM block last night.  We make two of the same block, one to keep one to put into the drawing for the guild.  They create a set of 12 blocks and then draw a persons ticket to see who gets to take home 12 blocks that night.  Last month there were enough participants to do 5 drawings!  I didn’t win sadly but maybe my luck will change this month. I posted this on my Twitter but I was wondering, out of these two blocks which one would you keep for yourself?  Civil war fabrics are dark and muddy colors typically so I...
