Quilt Finish! “Leftovers” – last quilt for 2012

Snapped a few photos of “Leftovers” before climbing into bed. I didn’t measure it to get the final dimensions but it’ll make a nice lap quilt for me in my recliner. I used a really soft vintage sheet for the back. Batting was a pellon cotton I somehow ended up with so it’s not terribly thick but it’s really soft. I haven’t washed it yet. Quilting was mostly straight line inside the tan areas with a few rows of straight lines inside the colored lines. The string border was all quilted in the ditch. Yes, each and every stinking seam was quilted and it took forever. Bernie is ready for bed apparently.

Quilt All of the Things

I have a whole bunch of tops that need quilting now, several of them have already been pin basted and are just waiting for me to get my act together. I haven’t quilted anything in a while so it took a bit to get my machine set back up for straight line and free motion quilting. I broke in my quilt leaf on my new sewing cabinet! I like it a lot I just wish I had more room in my sewing studio to get around the cabinet when everything is folded out. I can’t get behind it at all when it’s all setup so it makes it awkward in my 10 x 11 room. Jelly...

WIP Wednesday!

I haven’t done one of these in FOREVER! It’s good to see the progress I’ve made in the past few months though. I feel like I’m getting somewhere. Recent Finishes: Doggie Commission Quilt In Progress: “Leftovers” – top is finished. Need to pin baste and quilt it. I want to follow the lines of the quilt and do some straight line quilting. I toyed with the idea of filling in the tan areas with feathers but I’m not sure how that would look with all the angles in this quilt. I may trace some stuff out on quilting paper and see how it looks from afar. Remember this?? I pulled this oldie but goodie out of...

“Leftovers” Border Reveal

After some deliberation and seeing what everyone suggested I took a gamble and tried a border I haven’t done before but I’ve been wanting to try. It still isn’t complete yet, I think I’m going to scallop the edges but for now you can get an idea of what I decided to do. Oh for reference here is how the poll came out: 63% (38 people) voted “No” 37% (22 people) voted “Yes” Many of the comments on my Facebook Page suggested a border for it. I was leaning that way after looking at the top a while and wanted to enhance the scrappyness of the quilt to balance out the tan. Bonnie Hunter has a...

Leftovers – the quilt

I’ve been working on the HST units leftover from the snowball block quilt (see tutorial here).   Each block was trimmed down to 4″ square. Since I’m going pretty scrappy with this and not planning based on value or color it’s coming together quickly. My progress as of last night: Three more rows on the right and I’ll be done with the main part! Hoping it’ll be ready for borders tonight. And here is my design plan that I drew up in EQ7: I’m not completely set on the borders yet. I’ll probably do one small inner border and a large outer border. I don’t want to overthink it. I’m naming this one “Leftovers”.
